So my first project.
Well, though this one is less about outreach to others and more an outreach to my fellow OFLers, one of the things necessary after the program is continued contact with the ALUMNI, and this form of contact includes the cultural understanding we're working so hard towards.
One day while on the bus in California with all my friends, the OFL Alumni, everyone passed around different candy we had bought at the UCSB Bookstore. I was just sitting…

I'll count this as my first post, though I know it's not. I just wanted the explanation of the blog to always be at the top, not the bottom at the bottom of the list.
So, Ocean for Life. This'll be an explanation.…

As most of you know, this is the poem I read for our photo presentation. The girl is Nora.
A strange face beside me
Not like me at all
She wears a veil, looks ahead,
and I am so interested
That I stare.
I wonder how she lives, what her country is like,
What does that veil mean to her?
She turns,
and I look away,
embarrassed.
I look out the window
Into the blinding light
And squint at San Fransisco.
The bus’…

Two weeks ago
We dropped our lives,
Packed our things,
And came here to this place,
Not knowing what to expect.
But we found ourselves
Quickly crumbly
And melding into the Earth,
Embraced by water,
But rubbed raw by the salty sea.
Our pieces lay scattered
Creating a beautiful pattern
Of texture and light
Each piece different,
All rocks.
Out patterns bled
And we stained each…

"Look at me, the only black student on this trip. Imagine the weight of the negative stereotypes I am carrying on my shoulders in an attempt to shatter them all. There is much more than is portrayed at the surface when looking at me. I come from a community where most everyone cannot swim, but I love the ocean.
The serenity and stillness of ocean habitats amazes me. Awesome.
Interconnectedness revealing itself through all of the different cultures represented here simply…

In case you guys haven't noticed, I have a
habit of changing my quote selections that
head my profile. However, these two quotes in
particular really stick out to me and so they
are to remain on the page. =]
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. - Maya Angelou
"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace. - Jimi Hendrix

I’d like a frank love as the smile of a child
A love which would know how to dress of time’s coloros
To be brook and torrent
River and ocean
I’d like a quiet and soft love
Always surprising, but without too many turmoils
As snowflakes
Whose clouds relieve
I wanna everything to be confused
Friend, love, lover, accomplice
So that we can be our delight
Not our torture
I’d want as long
That evrything is… Continue

The happiness is a totally heterogeneous concept. Which is often confused with the well-being, the success or the social ascent. This word designates the events of entirely different nature. Everyone has his own conception of happiness.
Here is mine:
To be well, It is learned!
Certain persons believe that the happiness depends on their situations of life, the outside world to himself. However, their level of happiness depends mainly on their situations of life!… Continue

What an amazing day to go out and about
Especially when the sky appears after the rain clears out
There's a majestic sunny break that steals like a crook
The hearts of the people who get the chance to overlook
And then there are these people who are really cool see
Like my man Connor S. residing in Burnaby
British Columbia I mean and he's a cool dude
Loflers forever man and that is the truth
I can also speak of Samaah, a true cool…

We look at each other hard
Our eyes speaking fire
Listening with ears barred
Pushing each other down to climb higher
Pain and suffering screaming in teary-eyes
Just asking for relief, looking for a friend
But we don't recognize the cries
And a helping hand we don't lend
But when will we learn to love
We are all fighting the same war
But instead of raising white flags and releasing a dove
We continue to beg to fight some…

Just wanted to drop a link for the Sanctuaries YouTube page - there's some great video there of underwater kelp forests, several octopus species, a loggerhead turtle, German U-boats and other shipwrecks, and disentanglement of a humpback whale. Just thought you guys might like a look at these: http://www.youtube.com/sanctuaries
